As digital AOR, Firstborn is always in search of future-forward ways for consumers to experience and engage with the Mountain Dew brand. With the recent emergence of next-generation VR technology, via the Oculus Rift developer kits, we were inspired to partner with DEW to create a one-of-a-kind experience for fans that are passionate about action sports.
Through a combination of 360° 3D video and binaural audio, the Dew VR Skate Experience allows users to feel like they’re part of the Dew Skate Team, riding at some of the most iconic spots in Las Vegas—the landmark Vegas welcome sign, Caesars Palace and historic Fremont Street.
To pioneer a truly immersive experience, our development process ranged from 3D printing camera rig prototypes, to designing proprietary software for use with the Oculus Rift DK2 unit, to collaborating with world-class sound partner, Antfood, to optimize the audio component.
Dew Tour Brooklyn was the perfect place to offer fans this revolutionary and immersive way to engage with the brand. In only two days, over 800 fans lined up to skate alongside the Dew Skate Team, and countless participants shared a memento of the experience—a split screen video capture—to their social networks.
